How To Control Which Products Show The Gift Reggie (“Add to Registry”, “Add to Wishlist”) Buttons

The Gift Reggie app adds an “Add to Registry” button to your product templates. If you have multiple product templates, you will have to add buttons to all of them to show the button on all products.

Most Shopify stores use a single product template, called the Default product template, for all products. Because templates control the layout of product pages, any element added to a template (like the Add to Registry button) will appear on all products using that template.

However, some stores may want to hide the button on certain products.

The best way to do this is by:

  1. Creating a new product template

  2. Removing the Add to Registry button from that template

  3. Assigning that template to the products where you don’t want the button

Step 1 — Open the Shopify Theme Editor

  1. Log in to your Shopify Admin

  2. Go to Online Store

  3. Click Themes

  4. On your active theme, click Edit Theme

Your theme editor will open.

The theme editor allows you to edit the layout and sections of templates without coding.

Step 2 — Create a New Product Template

  1. In the theme editor top dropdown, select Products

  2. Click Create template

      

  1. Choose:
    Template name: something like

no-registry

  1. Click Create template

This will create a new template:

Templates can be created and customized independently, so different products can have different layouts.

Step 3 — Remove the Registry Button From the New Template

Once the new template opens:

  1. Locate the section where the Add to Registry button appears (usually under Product Information Section near buy buttons)

  2. Remove the section OR disable the app block

  3. Click Save


     

Now this template will not show the registry button.

Step 4 — Assign the New Template to Specific Products

Next, you will apply the new template to the products that should not show the registry button.

  1. Go to Shopify Admin

  2. Click Products

  3. Open the product you want to modify

  4. Scroll to the Theme template section

You will see something like:

  1. Select the new template:

no-registry

  1. Click Save

Shopify allows you to choose different templates for each product through the Theme template dropdown in the product editor.

Step 5 — Test the Product Page

  1. Open the product on your storefront

  2. Confirm that the Add to Registry button is hidden

Products using the default template will still display the button.

Optional: Apply Template to Multiple Products

If you have many products:

  1. Go to Products

  2. Select multiple products

  3. Click Bulk edit

  4. Add the Template column

  5. Assign the template "product.no-registry"

  6. Click Save
